You can start using it now, but you don’t have to. Before you hit “update”, read this first.

What is Divi 5?

If you’re new to Divi: it’s the WordPress theme I use to build websites for my clients. Over the past year, the Divi team has rebuilt it from the ground up, and Divi 5 has now been released to the public. I’ve been working with Divi 5 for about a year and I love it more and more each day. I’ve already built 10+ websites with it, and the improvements are significant. With Divi 5 your website is technically ready for the future.

When should you update to Divi 5?

This is the question I hear a lot now that Divi 5 is officially out.

My short answer: wait.

Divi 5 is new, and the biggest risks usually come from the plugins you use alongside it. It can take some time before everything plays nicely together. Waiting a bit can save you stress (and time).

Why update to Divi 5?

But the more interesting question - what this blog is really about - is: why update at all?

Because it can be more than a technical upgrade.

A purely technical update can be tempting, but it’s also a missed opportunity if you don’t look at your content at the same time. Your content is what makes your website work. A Divi 5 update is the perfect moment to step back and review your entire site.

Ask yourself these questions first

Before you decide anything, ask yourself:

Is my message still clear and strong?

Do I still love the design?

Are the photos and content still relevant?

Does the site feel smooth and easy to use?

Is everything up to date?

What could be simpler?

If you answer these honestly, you’ll quickly see what needs attention, and what would make your website feel fresh, aligned, and future-proof.

The perfect moment for a website check

Take a look at your site. Notice what you want to improve, what feels outdated, what doesn’t work well, and what could simply be removed. Get clear on the content and structure first.

And then plan your Divi 5 update. If you follow me, I’ll share when the timing is technically right. Want to know more now? In this blog I explain the technical side of the Divi 5 update in more detail.

Do you find that more is needed to get your site ready for the future? Then you might want to check out the Sustainable Divi 5 Website Makeover.

Conclusion: A sustainable website is more than a technical update

A technical update can be fun (especially if you’re a bit of a nerd like me), but it’s rarely the best starting point.

A sustainable website is one that feels right. One that matches who you are, what you offer, and the people you want to reach. Divi 5 can support that, but the real impact comes from the choices you make around your message, content, and structure.

Do you want help reviewing your website before updating to Divi 5?
