What do you do if your website doesn't look right on your screen? Often, this is a so-called 'caching problem'. Here you can read what cache is and a step-by-step explanation that will help you resolve caching issues by clearing different types of cache.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is cache?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cache consists of files stored in your browser or on servers and networks. They help load your pages faster by saving previously used files locally. While generally beneficial, they can cause problems after updates or while working on a website because the files being displayed are not up to date with the latest version of your saved page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is the cache located? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The path your website takes from web hosting to your screen is longer than you might think, and caching can play a role at all the stops along the way.  Temporary files are stored at each location, so you'll often need to take action in several places to resolve display issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resolve website display issues with these 7 steps.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These are the steps described below. Start from 1 and check after each step if the problems are resolved, as you might not need all the steps. It may seem complicated, but it's really just clicking a few buttons. You can do this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open a private browser window<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Clear browser cache<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Clear Divi cache in Divi settings (can also be done in step 3 instead of here)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Optional: Clear Divi cache via Divi Assistant or Divi Pixel plugin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Clear website cache via a caching plugin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Advanced: Clear CDN cache<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Restart the router<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Open an incognito or private window to reload the page, seeing it as though you're visiting the website for the first time. Completely fresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If the display is correct in the private window, it's time to clear your browser cache. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Clear Divi Cache in Divi (Static CSS File Generation)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    A common problem with Divi is the cache of static CSS files, especially if your site is still in development. To clear this cache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Go to Divi > Theme Options > Builder > Advanced<\/strong> in your WordPress Dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Toggle the option for Static CSS File Generation<\/strong> off and on again with the 'Enable' toggle, then press the 'Clear' button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      EXPERT TIP:<\/strong> If your website is under development and you are running into Divi cache issues, temporarily disable this function. Enable it again when the site is ready. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      4. Optional (instead of step 3): Clear Divi Cache via Divi Assistant or Divi Pixel plugin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      In some cases you might have a plugin that adds the option Clear Divi Cache<\/strong> to your WordPress admin bar. If so, you'll see one of the options below.

      5. Clear website cache via a caching plugin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Usually a caching plugin is active on your website, providing a menu option in your WordPress admin bar. Below you can see how that looks for LiteSpeed<\/strong>, WP Rocket,<\/strong> WPoptimize<\/strong> and SiteGroud Optimizer<\/strong>. Use it to clear the cache directly via the plugin. 
      In your corresponding menu, click on the function shown in green below to clear the cache.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      6. Advanced: Clear CDN Cache<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      If you use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) such as Cloudflare<\/strong> or BunnyCDN<\/strong>, your website files are stored on multiple servers worldwide for faster access. Sometimes there's an option in the WordPress admin bar to clear the cache from these servers.
      If not, do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Log in to your CDN service or web hosting. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Look for the option 'Clear Cache' or 'Purge Cache' and click it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        7. Restart the router<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        It still happens that cache files are stored on a local network, such as your internet router<\/strong>. For persistent problems, restarting the router in your home is a good idea too. No images this time; look for the power button or unplug the device for 10 seconds. Then wait until everything has started up again. Nicely old-school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
